Energetic efficiency

Abstract:

Currently, one of the main goals to achieve is the optimization of the use of energy to reach the highest energetic and economical savings. Therefore, regulations are focused on promoting and including policies that help to accomplish this aim progressively. However, most of them are mainly based on the use of LEDs and other similar elements.
This project has developed a managing method to turn on and off the lighting based on the twilights (civil and nautical) instead of the current methods, which are based on the sunrise and the sunset or in the luminosity variations. So, the developed method calculates the exact position of the Sun every day of the year and it provides the time of turning on and off with a higher accuracy. In comparison with current methods, it also produces energetic and economical savings.

Adaptation of transport buildings infrastructure and means of transport in architecture

Abstract: The most common recycling activities consist in downcycling, i.e. obtaining component elements from used materials. The idea of upcycling lies in reusing materials by increasing the value of the waste product and attributing a new utility function to it. This process involves as-close-as-possible preservation of the form in which the product played its former function through a creative adaptation to new needs and with a limited number of processing operations. A remarkable idea of upcycling can be illustrated with the below-presented examples of the innovative use of public transport buildings, other infrastructure and means of transport in architecture.

Designing of communication tools in creative sectors

Abstract: The need to create messages is present in all aspects of live and conscious activities of man, at each stage of human development. The signs created in complex structures transfer communication signals which display the necessity of socialisation in a family, surroundings, ethnic or cultural communities. The condition for good communication and smooth flow of information is collective consciousness and high competence of the designing team. The use of one communication system facilitates cooperation and removes potential errors. The article presents the circumstances of using communication tools in specific situations, at numerous levels of perception, in many objective contexts, in subjective receipt and transfer of information, at the level of developed technical communicators, applied in the activities of specific groups. All presented examples of communication tools refer to personal experience that has been recently gained by the author of the article in the fields of science, art, culture, engineering and new technologies, as well as personal reflection on the changeability and magnitude of communication codes and systems generated in our times.

What story can space tell? A message closed in a sign of geometry

Abstract: Space is like a story with specific content hidden in specific signs. The signs are information such as functions and combinations of metaphors and creative intentions. The text touches upon the cultural memory of signs and the geometric representation of forms in space. It indicates that the need for a geometric recording of space results not only from the need for computation, but is also a carrier of an abstract expression of ideas for entire social communities.

Communicating with the environment using a luminous form of interior design

Abstract: Thanks to the advances in technology, several technologies have emerged in the last quarter of a century to illuminate furniture coatings, or create luminescent forms of interior design, introducing a new way of receiving these elements and the ability to broadcast information. Illumination can take the form of animation, pictorial interfaces or interactive projections that allow communication with the user, but also control their appearance for the emission of simple social signals. As a result of many years of my experience in combining digital projections with interior design forms, it follows that apart from the obvious functions of the interface, the moving luminosity of the surrounding objects evokes a number of mental patterns from the current human environment. The projection activity of the environment, can build the interior reception, easily create moods, define functions or readiness for use, warn or calm down. My attempts, which were purely artistic, can be used for communication purposes, in a more intuitive way than writing or other graphic signs. However, the activity of the environment must be metered and selectively designed to avoid information cacophony, choose communication techniques and projection technologies appropriate to the specific tasks and predispositions of the human psyche. Presented methods for creating a luminous shell of interior elements, use already familiar technologies: diode, projectors or laser projectors, or touch screens, but also need engineering support in matters of power supply, control or data transfer. The key seems to be interaction or mobile communication, which have a chance to go here in the scale of the human body, launch a multi-sensory contact with the multimedia environment. Conceptual student projects of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw indicate the possibilities of new media in interiors, propose visually attractive and innovative solutions that are waiting to be used in business. There is also a noticeable scientific potential and a wide field of research in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in such fields as: electronics, IT, architecture, material engineering and psychology.

Item status and communication context

Abstract: Present day, saturated with information, data transmission and multi-band communication, means that design and the role of the designer are included in this current of mutual communication. The subject is thus intended to inform about specific content. So design, taking into account not only functional, formal and technological factors, is also focused on meeting the need to express a message and the internal order of expressiveness of the user. The subject of the following text is a reflection on the status of the subject in the context of its role as a means of communication. In the perspective of the present, the object can be treated as a sign, by which its utility and aesthetic value is supplemented with meaning. The general analysis is supported by examples from available sources that illustrate the discussed issue.

Art of architecture as a relay of information?

Abstract: The modern world has become a global village. There has been a point where communication can take place in real time between the callers regardless of the distance that separates them. The image of the "flat earth" has acquired a new, symbolic meaning. As a result, we have access to an unlimited number of messages from around the world. Consequently, the information transmitted loses its individual characteristics through its excessive dissemination. Hence, they also lose some of their significance and impact. As a result, recipients no longer feel the value of messages and everything becomes generally relative... Unfortunately, a similar picture of unifying and losing the individual character of the message has also been observed in the field of art (including architecture) for years. Therefore, it is worth considering what architecture will tell us about next generations ? Can it be treated as an information carrier? The thoughts were illustrated by several examples of architecture – both completed and conceptual objects (in the form of a diploma thesis).

Motorcycle – an aesthetic technical object

Abstract: The first motorcycle was created over 130 years ago. Today people use motorcycles for at least several reasons, that is: their operation is relatively cheap, they are easy to maneuver in crowded cities, riding a motorcycle gives a sense of freedom and independence. Regardless of the reason for using motorcycles, some owners of these two-wheelers vehicles are making great efforts to give their motorcycles individual and unique character. The desire to stand out from the crowd of identical serial machines is a reason to spend a lot of time and financial resources. The main purpose of this study was to present the basic possibilities of giving the motorcycle individual features desired by its owner along with examples. And aesthetics will be understood here as a nice and tasteful look.

The Processes of Restructuring and Revitalization of Mines that Are Put Into Liquidation

Abstract: Restructuring measures have been carried out in the Polish mining industry to adjust the industry to the market economy. The liquidation of the mine is the last and natural stage of mining activity. A decision to liquidate a mining plant may be issued as a result of the depletion of resources of exploited deposit, the unprofitability of mining in a particularly unfavorable mining and geological conditions and the expiry of a concession or excessive environmental degradation. As a result of the restructuring processes, the number of active hard coal mines significantly dropped. The activities related to the revitalization and restructuring of hard coal mines are carried out by Spółka Restrukturyzacji Kopalń S.A. as the legal successor of previous mining operations. The mine liquidation is complex and costly. Changes taking place in the mining environment cause interest in applying the concept of process management in the conducted activity. The publication presents the results of the research on the processes that occur while releasing the property of mining plants that are put into liquidation. According to the previous conclusions, proposals for possible changes of the process management system adapted to the specificity of mine liquidation were presented.

Benefits and threats of building a nuclear power plant Poland

Abstract: In this article, the author addresses several issues related to nuclear energy and nuclear power plants. Firstly, the phenomenon of nuclear energy release and its usage in energy reactors is explained as well as the advantages of nuclear energy is pointed. Additionally, the attention to the problem of radioactive waste generation, neutralization and storage is discussed. Next, the largest failures of nuclear power plants and their effects were briefly characterized, since such accidents had a strong impact on decisions to close or even abandon the construction of such power plants. However, the implementation of new solutions in the construction of nuclear reactors, based on the conclusions of previous accidents, significantly reduces the possibility of their occurrence in the future. Finally, the author discuss the issue of construction of nuclear power plants in Poland pointing to the fact of elimination coal and gas from electricity production in order to reduce CO2 emission. This is motivated by the fact that energy obtained from the so-called renewable energy sources will not fully meet the energy demand. However, a few problems should be solved before starting the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland.

Computer Systems Supporting the Management of Mining Machines in Hard Coal Mine

Abstract: Computer systems which support the management of equipment use and maintenance in enterprises have been successfully applied in many branches of industry. Over the last years these systems have become considerably transformed. Also their use in the operation of winning machines in hard coal mines seems inevitable, as productive maintenance generates high production costs. If implemented, these systems will enable the optimization of stocks, parts and materials, supply, outsourcing and maintenance-repair works. The application of a system for supporting the management of mining equipment will also enable a more effective use of employees. As a result, the time needed for the preparation and repairs will be shortened, which will directly translate into the economic results of a mine.

Casting Machines and Properties of Al-Si Castings Alloys

Abstract:
The paper focuses on the research of holding pressure inside the mould cavity and pressing speed as technological parameters of die casting. The experiments conducted within the frame of the practical part examined the plunger and the pressure or the holding pressure in the mould cavity influencing the mechanical properties of a casting which were represented by ultimate tensile strength and percentage share of porosity of Al-Si castings. The results of experiments and analysis of the measured values proved the relation between pressure, or holding pressure, in the mould cavity and the ultimate tensile strength and porosity of castings. Plunger pressing speed is closely related to mould cavity filling mode which affected the final porosity of casting. It can be assumed that die casting is positively influenced by the increase of ultimate tensile strength and reduction of porosity during the increase of pressure or of holding pressure in the mould cavity. Higher values of holding pressure caused the elimination of pores which resulted in a decrease in the percentage share of pores in the casting and an increase in values of ultimate tensile strength.

Technical Diagnostics of Industrial Double TwistTwinner Machine for Data Cables

Abstract: The presented article focuses on the diagnostic measurement and evaluation of vibrations of equipment used for data-cable twisted pairing manufacture. A short description of the process of the data cables manufacturing process to which the diagnosed device belongs is provided and the qualitative parameters of the data cables are mentioned. The experimental part is devoted to the experimental diagnostics of the given system in order to locate and identify the possible reason for the occurrence of the parameter´s critical value of the loss of the data cable. When deterioration of electric properties was detected, monitoring the basic oscillation characteristics has been deployed as the key tool to detecting damaged machine parts, and avoiding quality deterioration of the products in the manufacturing process. Finally, the quality of the paired cables after the repair has been confirmed by measurements verifying the efficiency of the measures performed.

New Concept of Software for Calculation of Chain Gears

Abstract: At present, practically all areas of design activities are supported by computer technology, which can be effectively used in the design of gears, belts and chain transmissions, especially in the field of calculations, as well as graphics solutions. However, their use requires mastering the basic principles of computational procedures contained in the programs in question and, on that basis, critically evaluating computer-generated solutions. The presented paper deals with the design proposal and application of program for calculation and check of chain gears. Although there are currently various programs on the market that can design chain transmissions and perform strength analysis, there is still space for improvement and the creation of these programs. The computing program has been created as a spreadsheet in the working environment of the Microsoft Office program by the Excel application through defined sequences of the individual commands. The program serves for design proposal of a chain drive by means of inserted databases, graphs and tables. In the process of designing and checking the input values are entered such as performance, rotations, and number of wheels. Through calculation the software generates speed of a chain, circumferential speed, tensile force, number of chain links, axial distance, etc. At the same time the paper compares generated parameters with manual calculation of the chain gear.

The Horizon: A User Experience Assessment of Automotive User Interfaces

Abstract: Innovations for new display technologies equipped in vehicles set forth a need for assessing the impact of their user-adoption and emergence. This paper offers a phenomenological approach for investigating the user interaction and user experience of driving when augmented reality, heads-up displays, and digital screens are present. In doing so, this paper aims to show how the phenomenological concept of the horizon helps us to understand the ways in which screen technologies may affect the quality of the user experience for drivers. Implications of the horizon allow us to consider how, while driving, we recognize objects categorically in sense perception, observe the present and foresee its future consequences, and make decision-procedures according to levels of priority and attention to detail. As a result, these considerations help strengthen our approach to understanding driving activity while screens are in the periphery. Thus, these findings are suggested to be adopted for further user experience quality assessments in the field of intelligent transport systems.

Usability of Obsidian with Special Refraction as an Ornamental Stone by Bonding with Epoxy Resin

Abstract: Ornamental stones have been used quite a lot from past to present, and they are produced both naturally and synthetically in terms of visuality, durability and rarity. Naturally used ornamental stones are divided into two different classes as precious and semi-precious, and obsidian with two different colors belonging to the Nemrut volcanics used in the study is classified as semi-precious stones. Obsidian is a volcanic glass, showing a special fracture (conchoidal) and fracture surfaces give the rock a distinctive shine. In this study, obsidian was classified by breaking in different sizes (8-4.75 mm, 4.75-2 mm and 2-0.6 mm) in order to achieve this brightness. While black obsidian shards were obtained from 4.75-2 mm in size, brown obsidian shards were obtained from 2-0.6 mm shards and chose with the help of tweezers. Obsidian fragments with both colors were bonded with epoxy resin mixed at a ratio of 2:1 (epoxy and hardener) and placed in jewelry apparatus. The known durability properties and gloss of epoxy and the gloss on the broken surfaces of obsidian have been highlighted, and it has been observed that obsidian which has been used with different cutting and polishing techniques until now, can be obtained as a new product by using binder material. It is suitable to be used as an ornamental stone in jewelry making as a result of binding the obsidian fragments with epoxy by making use of the shines that occur on the fractured surfaces of the obsidian. In addition, it has been revealed that new products can be obtained as a result of bonding many natural rocks and minerals by using different binding materials.
