Development of an integrated approach of quality management in difficult technical processes
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-01-01-2015
Abstract: The article presents the results of studies conducted in a company manufacturing aluminium forgings for the automotive industry. The aim of the research was to identify the defects which form during the production process as well as the locations and causes of their occurrence. Selected quality management tools were used in the process. Based on the FMEA and the costs generated by the identified defects, a hierarchy of them was created for the company along with a proposal of improvements in case of the most significant ones in order to reduce their number and increase the detection efficiency.

Economic effects of a mining plant resulting from the application of the short-front system
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-02-01-2015
Abstract:The article points to possibilities of using a short-front system as an alternative exploitation system, the application of which has a positive influence on the economic effects of a mining plant. A comparative analysis of the residual exploitation of a deposit by means of longwall and short-front systems has been conducted. The results of the analysis have been discussed, which indicated that the application of mining systems (short-front) can be profitable for mining plants and may lead to rational mining of deposit residual. Moreover, the use of a short-front system allowed a double increase of the analysed seam exploitation.

Calculation of the deadlines for nesting with the possibility of combining orders
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-04-01-2015
Abstract:This paper describes the problems associated with determining deadlines for handling production orders during the orders combination process in order to optimize nesting. The analyzed problems relate to an automated nesting system in which production orders come in via the Internet and are processed automatically, and with minimum operator intervention. The article describes the issues of cutting optimization in the manufacturing system based on a water cutter. The optimization process is closely associated with the generation of production schedules for current orders base. Particular attention is focused on the analysis of problems arising from the omission of the human role in the processing of orders, scheduling and decision-making processes.

Designing machinery and equipment in accordance with the principle of sustainable development
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-05-01-2015
Abstract:The paper presents a designing scheme based on the main criterion of optimisation, which is to minimize the vibrations and noise generated by machinery. This concept takes into account the deterioration of the strength and operational properties of constructions, which should be brought to a satisfactory level by applying additional measures. The considered design approach was examined on the example of the gearboxes, for which it is extremely difficult to achieve a noise reduction due to their highly advanced technology.

Applicability of activity based costing in new product development processes
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-06-01-2015
Abstract:The purpose of the article is to emphasis that activity based costing is a proper tool for engineers to enhance their decision-making process while developing new product. The theoretical analysis shows that variety of factors shall be encompassed into new product decision-making process and therefore engineers and management should pay great attention to proper cost allocation. The paper suggests the usage of Activity Based Costing methodology for new product development decision-making process. Author states that application ABC in the process of rational decision-making referring to new product development enables managers and engineers to prioritize possible solutions, and reallocate resources used in production process in order to meet wider organizational goals. It would also contribute in cooperation of managers and engineers for the sake of organizational goal.
