Keeping technical education aligned to the need and expectations of industry
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-01-02-2016
Abstract: Paper describes the continuous quality improvement procedures used by the author to keep the General Engineering program at Penn State Hazleton aligned to the needs and expectations of industry. The paper addresses the procedure for the development of program educational objectives which are the goals of the program. The goals of the program are defined jointly by industry leaders and former Engineering graduates as well as the Engineering faculty. The paper also focuses on the development of the student outcomes which is the body of knowledge that every graduate should have at the day of graduation. The paper also explains the process for collecting data for the purpose of assessing the level of attainment of program objectives and student outcomes. Based on the data which is being collected on an ongo- ing basis, the necessary corrective actions are implemented. This is happening on the program level as well as the course level. The necessary changes on the course level are happening every semester. The adjustments to the Engineering curriculum are being made yearly usually during the summer months. The paper focuses on the constant need for revis- ing the curriculum in order to stay current with technology.

The structure analytical research of porous permeable wire material
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-02-02-2016
Abstract:The details of making technology of porous permeable material with use of wire are allowed to carry out the analytical research of structure and structural characteristics of wire winding body. Its permit for prognostication the final proper- ties of material, that is produced by the following deformation treatment (diameter reduction). Due to the regular organized arrangement of wire, the coil of winding body is considered as a multispan continuous beam, but a contact of coils – as interaction of two cylinders. Possibility of exactly calculation of the contacts between coils is allowed to go over the single fragment displacements into deformation of whole winding body. During research of deformation processes in regards of winding body geometry and used wire mechanical properties, the structural characteristics of porous permea- ble wire material are expected. The optimal number of winding layers, eliminating the distortion of organized final struc- ture, is established. The material pressure–compactness relation is obtained in order to control the technological condi- tions of winding and drafting for guarantee the product required properties.

The problems of ensure of save labor conditions on workplaces for adhesive bonding
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-03-02-2016
Abstract:In the performance a variety of technological operations a human may come into contact with a variety of factors causing deterioration of safety at work. As an example of which is described in article, adhesive bonding operations are requiring use of specific chemicals, which are adhesives. They are produced on the basis of a variety of compounds, often hazardous to human health. Furthermore, adhesive bonding requires a series of preparatory operations such as degreasing or surface preparation with a specific structure and roughness and auxiliary operations such as measurement of the wettability of surface. In this paper are described examples of risks occurring during adhesive bonding, it is a simple way to estimate the risks associated with the performance of operations. The examples of the determination by the producers of chemicals are described which are used in adhesive bonding and fragment of international chemical safety card (ICSC), as a source of information important to the workplace organization and ensuring safety during adhesive bonding.

Optimizing outcome in the university-industry technology transfer projects
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-04-02-2016
Abstract:Transferring inventions of academic scientists to private enterprises for the purpose of commercialization is long known as University-Industry (firm) Technology Transfer While the importance of this phenomenon is simultaneously raising in public and private sector, only a part of patented academic inventions succeed in passing the process of commercialization. Despite the fact that formal Technology Transfer process and licencing of patented innovations to third party is the main legal tool for safeguarding rights of academic inventors in commercialization of their inventions, it is not sufficient for transmitting tacit knowledge which is necessary in exploitation of transferred technology. Existence of reciprocal and complementary relations between formal and informal technology transfer process has resulted in formation of different models for university-industry organizational collaboration or even integration where licensee firms keep contact with academic inventors after gaining legal right for commercialization of their patented invention. Current paper argues that despite necessity for patents to legally pass the right of commercialization of an invention, they are not sufficient for complete knowledge transmission in the process of technology transfer. Lack of efficiency of formal mechanism to end the Technology Transfer loop makes an opportunity to create innovative interpersonal and organizational connections among patentee and licensee company. With emphasize on need for further elaboration of informal mechanisms as critical and underappreciated aspect of technology transfer process, article will try to answer the questions of how to optimize knowledge transmission process in the framework of University-Industry Technology Transfer Projects? What is the theoretical basis for university-industry technology transfer process? What are organization collaborative models which can enhance overall performance by improving transmission of knowledge in University- Firm Technology Transfer process?

Mining Security Pipe© (TSM)© with underground GPS Global© (RSPG)©. Escape security device in underground mining
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-05-02-2016
Abstract:TSM is escape pipe in case of collapse of terrain. The TSM is a passive security tool placed underground to connect the work area with secure area (mining gallery mainly). TSM is light and hand able pipe made with aramid (Kevlar), carbon fibre, or other kind of new material. The TSM will be placed as a pipe line network with many in/out entrances/exits to rich and connect problem work areas with another parts in a safe mode. Different levels of instrumentation could be added inside such as micro-led escape way suggested, temperature, humidity, level of oxygen, etc.). The open hardware and software like Arduino will be the heart of control and automation system.

Benefits of an application of evolutionary strategy in the process of test data generation
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-06-02-2016
Abstract:The aim of the article is to highlight the advantages that can be obtained through the use of evolutionary strategy in software testing, specifically in the process of test data generation. The first chapter introduces the reader to the topic of the article. Presents information of the problem of software quality, test data fitness and quality criteria. The second chapter provides an overview of the publication in which is described the test data generation problem by using evolutionary strategies. In this chapter there are presented, different approaches to address the optimization problem of test data selection. The third chapter sets out the advantages which in the opinion of the author result from the application of evolutionary strategy in the process of test data generation. In this section have been drawn conclusions from the article, from books listed in the bibliography. The author of the article presents advantages of evolutionary strategy too as a person, which tests a software in practise. The last chapter in addition to summaries and conclusions, proposes the author to suggest in which issues related to testing could be used evolutionary strategies.

Mines, quarries and landscape. Visuality and transformation
DOI 10.12914/MSPE-07-02-2016
Abstract:In this paper a review of two basic concepts is carried out: scenery and landscape integration, proposing a new concept: "visuality", alternative to the classical "visibility" used in landscape studies related to mining activity, which explores the qualitative aspects that define the visual relationships between observer and environment. In relation to landscape integration studies, some reflections on substantive issues are made which induce certain prejudices at the time of addressing the issue of mining operations landscape integration, and some guidance and integration strategies are formulated. In the second part of the text, a new approach to the landscape integration of mines and quarries is raised, closely linked to the concept of visuality which are based on a basic goal: the re-qualification of the place, and give innovative answers to re-qualify the place and show how to catch the opportunity in the deep transformation generated by the development of mining activities. As a conclusion, a case study is presented in the last section, the landscape integration study conducted on marble exploitations Coto Pinos (Alicante, Spain), considered the largest ornamental rock quarry in Eu- rope.
