Food safety systems’ functioning in polish networks of grocery stores
Abstract: This article shows the way how the food safety systems are functioning in Polish networks of grocery stores. The study was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2012 in the south-eastern Poland. There were chosen three organizations that meet certain conditions: medium size Polish grocery network without participation of foreign capital and up to 30 retail locations within the group. Studies based on a case study model. The research found that regular and unannounced inspections carried out to each store's, impact on increasing safety of food offered and the verification of GHP requirements on the headquarters level has a significant impact on the safety of food offered as well as on the knowledge and behavior of employees. In addition it was found that the verification and analysis of food safety management system is an effective tool for improving food safety. It was also shown that in most cases there is no formal crisis management system for the food protection in the surveyed companies and employees are only informed of what to do in case of an emergency.
Key words: GHP, GMP, HACCP, food safety, grocery stores, retail

Qualimetrical evalution of educational achievements
Abstract: Presents a methodology qualimetrical evaluation of achievements of the students, using a common approach to the definition of the levels of quality in the individual components of student activities and the total of its rating. Visibility approach is supported by the proposed «the tree of the rating».
Key words: assessment of the achievements of the students, components of activity, the «tree of rating», the weight (importance) components

Technology assessment in engineering practice. The case of Bioliq® – fuel production from biomass
Abstract: This paper includes a brief overview of the basic motivations and objectives of TA, followed by a description of the three main operating fields of TA: providing scientific advice for decision-making in the political system, contributing to public debate, and enriching technology development and engineering practice. These issues will then be considered in more detail by referring to various approaches to the relationship between TA and technology development and by presenting a specific case study of an accompanying TA process over various development stages of the bioliq® process for converting dry biomass into fuel (Bio-mass to Liquid) and chemicals. The accompanying TA work on the bioliq® process can, as a result of more than ten years of experience, be considered a successful technology assessment as it has opened up a new research field with a highly precautionary aspect on the one hand, and helped to win over technology-oriented research institutes to reorienting their research work, on the other. The results of the TA studies allowed to assess e.g. the competitiveness of the bioliq® process at a very early stage. The mutual trust built up in the course of the historical development between the parties involved has always been essential for this ongoing ac-companying TA process. TA has been proven, in this way, a useful tool to uncover new chances for engineering research and development, and to accompany the research process.
Key words: Technology Assessment, energetic use of biomass, process chain analysis

A selection of the parameters of the energy potential of the impact executive bodies and the prediction of their resource
Abstract: The article describes received by the author multifactorial models of fracture of materials according to the technological scheme typical for building and road machines. Analysis of the models allows to set a reasonable ratio between speed and mass impact energy components to their use in the design. The relationship was obtained to determine the reasonable value of operating voltages generated by the instrument, depending on the strength properties of a destroyed object. Using an expression to determine the speed of the striker with the well-known strength of a destroyed material, a formula was obtained for the prediction of the resource of mobile connections drums executive bodies.
Key words: impact executive body, multifactor models, destruction, strength properties, resource forecasting, mobile connections of knots of machines

Review of modern non-surgical tools applied in cardiac surgery
Abstract: Surgical intervention is commonly associated with the use of hardware that facilitates invasive medical treatment. Nowadays surgeons apply a new set of tools that help them anticipate the outcome of the intervention and define potential risk factors. Increasing patient migration inspired healthcare professionals to introduce universal standards of care, supported by medical guidelines and checklists. Today, prior to skin incision, every modern cardiac surgeon is enabled in the whole range of tools that are designed to increase patient safety and provide thorough information to the whole medical team.
Key words: risk scales, checklist, cardiac surgery, medical guidelines

Complex long time measurements carried out on lignite heap on Sokolovské Uhelné a.s.
Abstract: Long time in situ measurements carried out on selected lignite (brown coal) heaps in the summer and winter season of 2012 and 2013 are described in this paper. The study was prepared in the frame of the research project TAČR No. TA01020351 “Research of prediction possibilities of infusion occurrence and following brown coal fuel self-ignition” supported in the programme ALFA. The main goal is to inform about the progress in the project focused on the research, development, and verifying of the complex methodology for an early identification of the start of an irreversible infusion state of lignite (brown coal) mass tending to its ignition (fire).
Key words: lignite, brown coal, deposit, heap, coal self-ignition, monitoring, critical temperature prediction, gas emissions, economic loss decrease, environment improvement

Some observations on the design of noise barriers
Abstract: The issue connected with effectiveness of noise barriers has been the subject of numerous considerations among acousticians. On the one hand, noise barriers are still the most popular and the most frequently used protection against traffic noise, on the other hand, however, the excessive number of noise barriers and the results of research focusing on effectiveness of the existing barriers make us reflect whether it is reasonable to use them. Very often low effectiveness of noise barriers is related to a badly conducted designing process. This article presents the basic mistakes made by noise barriers’ designers and the consequences thereof. Next, the paper describes the appropriate approach to the process of the noise barriers’ design which consists in the use of computer methods and conducting of a detailed analysis of the acoustic field’s distribution both behind the barrier and on the facades of the acoustically protected buildings.
Key words: acoustic screens, screen design, the effectiveness of screens
